About Bermuda Botanical Gardens:
If you’re looking to slow things down a little for a day, Bermuda Botanic Gardens is a great place to take a rest from the more action-oriented Attractions in Bermuda and just enjoy the sunshine. Established in 1898, Bermuda Botanic Gardens is nestled in Paget Parish. The Gardens occupies 35 acres of Bermuda, and is graced with a variety local trees, shrubs and flowers.
This extensive collection of flora includes Banyan trees, semitropical fruit trees, hibiscus and aloe. There are also several species of flowers such as freesias and dahlias. There are greenhouses with orchids and several species of cactus. Also found here are vast lawns, and even an aromatic garden designed specifically for the blind.
The Gardens are comprised of various sections. Along the North Gate of the Gardens there are hillsides with cactus, various types of aloe and agave. Bermuda cedars feature prominently there and Blue Garden is replete with brilliant blue foliage. The official residence of the Bermudan premier, Camden House is a part of Bermuda Gardens.
Built in the early 18th century, Camden House is a classic example of stately Georgian architecture. It contains an impressive collection of fine art and antiquities that can be viewed during a free tour of the gardens and house. Behind Camden House is a striking rose garden as well as an herb garden. The aviary showcases several species of birds including peacocks which freely roam the grounds.
